Kayak the Wapsi River for Beginners

Join CrawDaddy’s expert guides on the beautiful Wapsi River from Quasqueton to Troy Mills County Park, a wild segment that passes by limerstone cliffs and lowland woods of silver maples, willows and cottonwoods. On this trip designed for beginners, we'll spend time teaching basic kayak skills on shore and on the river as well as kayak safety to help you feel comfortable and confident on the water!

We will meet in the morning at CrawDaddy Outdoors in Waverly, and drive 1 hour to our starting point. After dropping off gear and paddlers, we’ll quickly shuttle vehicles to our end point and return to the start where our adventure begins! We plan to be on the water at approximately 10 am and off the water by 2pm with a sandbar stop for lunch. This float is great for friends, family, beginners and anyone looking for a fun day on the river!

Feel free to bring your own drinks, lunch and snacks to enjoy on the water. Pit toilet facilities may be available at start and/or end points, but be prepared for wilderness bathroom practices on the river.

What’s Included: 

Professional instruction and guiding, transportation from Waverly, IA to the event and back, kayak, paddle, PFD, first aid kit, safety gear. If you’d prefer to bring your own kayak or gear, you are welcome to do so.

Skill Level:

Beginner. Plan to be on the water for about 4 hours with a mid-day for lunch on a sandbar. We plan to paddle in most weather conditions–rain or shine, hot or cold, windy or still.

Not Included:

Lunch, snacks, water or other beverages, optional guide gratuities, items of a personal nature.

Registration is limited to 10 people. A minimum of 4 registrants is required to offer the trip.

We have intentionally limited the number of participants on our trips in order to provide a safe and rich outdoor experience.
