Kayak Safety Pool Class

Ensure a safe paddle trip for you and others by enhancing your water safety skills in our Kayak Pool Safety Class. We’ll start in the classroom for brief instruction before moving to the pool for hands-on learning. ACA certified instructors, will teach you the basics of kayak safety and rescue techniques. Wear your swimsuit, swim trunks or whatever water clothing you’re comfortable in. You will get wet! Access to public restrooms and shower facilities will be available.

This class is great for paddlers who want to learn and practice kayak safety, improve paddle strokes and enhance their kayaking experience.  We also highly recommend all Isle Royale adventure attendees to take this class.

Classes held at the The W pool on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.

• Upon arrival, Park in "O" Lot and enter through front doors

What’s Included: 

Pool admission, small class size, professional instruction by an ACA certified instructor, kayaks, PFDs, paddles, bilge pumps, paddle floats and other safety gear. If you’d prefer to bring your own PFD, you are welcome to do so.

Activities:

Brief classroom instruction followed by plenty of hands-on time in the pool. Attendees will learn several basic paddle strokes and means of maneuvering your kayak, safety and rescue techniques for solo and assisted rescue. 

Skill Level: 

Beginner. Expect to be active in the pool for 2 hours.

Registration:

Limited to 10 people. A minimum of 3 registrants is required to offer the class. 

We have intentionally limited the number of participants on our classes in order to provide a safe and rich experience.
