Rocks on the Water: Archaeology Paddle
Crawdaddy is bringing to you a rich cultural experience! This adventure focuses the deep cultural history Bremer County, the Cedar Valley and Iowa in general. Paddlers can expect five stops along the way where they will be presented with the following discussion topics: an overview of Bremer County and Cedar Valley archaeology, artifact collection and curation, technology in archaeology, cultural resources compliance, and current archaeological research. Participants are encouraged to bring their artifacts and questions. The event is limited to 20 paddlers.
About the tour guide – Brennan (B.J.) Dolan is an archaeologist and cultural resources manager for the Iowa DOT. He is the current president of the Association of Iowa Archaeologist, and a board member for the Iowa Archaeological Society. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, University of Nebraska, and Waverly-Shell Rock schools.
The cost is $30 if you’re bringing your own kayak or $40 if you need to rent one.

Floatzilla is the Quad Cities annual paddle sports festival that culminates with a Guinness World Record attempt at the largest flotilla of kayaks and canoes on the protected backwaters of Lake Potter at Sunset Marina in Rock Island, Illinois.
CrawDaddy Outdoors will be at Lake Potter with a booth selling kayaks and gear.
- Rentals will be available for $40 per single kayak
- There will be no tandems or canoe rentals

- 6:15 am pickup at Ben Butterworth launch or 7:00 am pickup at Lake Potter
- All boats need to be returned to Lake Potter at end of event.
