Rocks on the Water: Archaeology Paddle

Crawdaddy is bringing to you a rich cultural experience!  This adventure focuses the deep cultural history Bremer County, the Cedar Valley and Iowa in general.  Paddlers can expect five stops along the way where they will be presented with the following discussion topics: an overview of Bremer County and Cedar Valley archaeology, artifact collection and curation, technology in archaeology, cultural resources compliance, and current archaeological research.  Participants are encouraged to bring their artifacts and questions.  The event is limited to 20 paddlers.

About the tour guide – Brennan (B.J.) Dolan is an archaeologist and cultural resources manager for the Iowa DOT.  He is the current president of the Association of Iowa Archaeologist, and a board member for the Iowa Archaeological Society.  He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, University of Nebraska, and Waverly-Shell Rock schools.

The cost is $30 if you’re bringing your own kayak or $40 if you need to rent one.

Join us for a relaxing evening in beautiful Waverly, Iowa this summer. Meet at the Waverly Light and Power Boat Ramp at 5:45pm and paddle for approximately 20-30 minutes, then enjoy live music while floating on the river (concert starts at 6:30pm). The evening ends with a short 40-minute paddle back to the boat ramp.

Bring your own kayak for free, or if you need one for the evening, they’re available for just $10.

Join us for a kayaking and camping trip to the Middle Raccoon River in Western Iowa.  Paddle through the enchanting sandstone cliffs of the Whiterock Valley and camp at the Whiterock Conservancy Campground.  This beginner level trip combines daily kayak floats with opportunities to hike through the unique conservancy area of savannas, restored prairies, riverside bluffs and unique historic sites.  All trip gear is provided along with all meals and transportation.

$200 per person trip cost includes transportation, all meals, guided experience and any gear you need to borrow for trip.

Apostle Islands Sea Kayaking Trip @ Lake Superior, Wisconsin

If you’ve previously joined us on a Lake Superior kayak adventure, this trip is for you.  This year we will be backcountry camping on an island to island excursion including Basswood, Stockton and Oak Islands.  If conditions permit, we will paddle to the Raspberry Island lighthouse.  Previous sea kayaking experience with CrawDaddy Outdoors is required.  All transportation, gear and meals are provided.

Help us celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act with this rustic paddling trip to one of the first designated scenic rivers.  This trip will provide a true kayak camping experience as we float down this beautiful river in western Wisconsin.   Previous paddling and camping experience is recommended.  All trip gear is provided along with all meals and transportation.

Floatzilla is the Quad Cities annual paddle sports festival that culminates with a Guinness World Record attempt at the largest flotilla of kayaks and canoes on the protected backwaters of Lake Potter at Sunset Marina in Rock Island, Illinois.

CrawDaddy Outdoors will be at Lake Potter with a booth selling kayaks and gear.

  • Rentals will be available for $40 per single kayak
  • There will be no tandems or canoe rentals
  • You must call ahead to reserve and pay for rental: 319-352-9129
  • 6:15 am pickup at Ben Butterworth launch or 7:00 am pickup at Lake Potter
  • All boats need to be returned to Lake Potter at end of event.

The wilderness calls! Joins us as we float one of Kentucky’s most scenic waterways. This fun filled adventure takes you on a canoe camping expedition through Kentucky cave country. The Green River is home to one of the most unique geological areas on earth. Float down a beautiful winding river surrounded by tall bluffs and bubbling springs. Paddle by waterfalls and limestone pocketed caves as you travel through this scenic wild country. Camping on gravel bars with the sound of the river right beside you and experience nature like you never have before. This is an adventure destined to make memories for a lifetime.
