Enhance your joy of kayaking by becoming more familiar with and more comfortable with your kayak. This class is designed for beginning kayakers or for those wanting to improve their kayaking skills. You will learn proper paddling strokes, rescue techniques, and much more. Classes are held in the winter months at the “W” pool at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and in the summer months at Avenue of the Saints Lake located west of the Hwy 218 and Hwy 3 intersection.

The costs for ACA Level 1 safety clinics are $30. However, if you purchased a boat from CrawDaddy Outdoors in 2016 or 2017, the cost is only $15.
The costs for ACA Level 2 safety clinics are $50. However, if you purchased a boat from CrawDaddy Outdoors in 2016 or 2017, the cost is only $25.

Join Mary McInnis Meyer of Field of Yoga, and Darrin Siefken of Crawdaddy Outdoors, as we paddle one of Northeast Iowa’s rivers, with a stop for yoga. All experience levels of paddling and yoga are welcome – whether it’s paddling or yoga, we will break it down for you and get you feeling comfortable.

Bring a sack lunch, a beach towel, sunscreen, plenty of water, and be ready for a day being fully alive in nature. Typical trip format is a 3-hour paddle, then a yoga & lunch break, then another 1-hour paddle, and optional brief yoga at the end. Live it up!

Times are approximate and rivers are tentative. They will be finalized closer to the date pending river levels. Details on put-in/take-out, car-pooling, and shuttle will be emailed the Friday prior to the trip.

Early sign-up recommended! All participants must sign up by noon the day prior. Register with Field of Yoga – www.fieldofyoga.com.

Intro to Kayak Fishing @ Brookwood Park

This class will introduce people to the sport of kayak fishing on local Iowa rivers and lakes. It will start with a demo of our fishing kayaks where you will have the opportunity to try out the models we carry and discover their features and stability. Next, two Iowa fisheries professionals will be here to discuss local fish species in our rivers, habitats, seasonal movements and techniques to catch them. We will then be loading up in the kayaks to get your fishing lines wet as we paddle, fish, and provide instruction down to the Boy Scout camp. After a morning of great fishing, fishing tips and paddle instruction we will provide lunch on a sandbar. Hope you can join us for this educational and exciting day of fishing!

Our 2017 Wisconsin Backpacking Trip is a great way to learn about overnight backpacking and hammock camping, trip planning, and food preparation. This beginner level trip will take place at Kickapoo Valley Reserve near LaFarge, Wisconsin and is appropriate for most age and fitness levels. No prior backpacking or hiking experience is needed.

Bring a sack lunch, a beach towel, sunscreen, plenty of water, and be ready for a day being fully alive in nature. Typical trip format is a 3-hour paddle, then a yoga & lunch break, then another 1-hour paddle, and optional brief yoga at the end. Live it up!

Times are approximate and rivers are tentative. They will be finalized closer to the date pending river levels. Details on put-in/take-out, car-pooling, and shuttle will be emailed the Friday prior to the trip.

The least visited National Park in the lower 48 states is calling your name. Join Darrin Siefken as he leads you through this majestic wilderness area. Learn about the moose and wolf populations while you explore the island. The greenstone rocks and stunning views of Lake Superior provide a true wilderness experience. A ferry will transport you from Grand Portage, Minnesota to the island. From there, you will navigate around and through the island to the ferry pick up point. There is no electricity, no cell towers, and no vehicles – simply you, your feet, and nature. Trip cost includes transportation from/to Waverly, Iowa to Grand Portage, Minnesota, the ferry ride to the island (and back), all gear and meals along with the expertise of an 13-time visitor to the island.

This trip is not for beginners.

Floatzilla is the Quad Cities annual paddle sports festival that culminates with a Guinness World Record attempt at the largest flotilla of kayaks and canoes on the protected backwaters of Lake Potter at Sunset Marina in Rock Island, Illinois.

CrawDaddy Outdoors will be at Lake Potter with a booth selling kayaks and gear.

  • Rentals will be available for $40 per single kayak
  • There will be no tandems or canoe rentals
