This cost for these events are $10 if you need snowshoes, or just $FREE if you have your own.

Waverly Rail Trail Candlelight Ski @ Trailhead Shelter

The Waverly Rail Trail will be dressed for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and walking on Saturday, January 27 from 5-7 pm. Nestle’s Hot Cocoa and a bonfire will be at the turnaround point approximately 1.2 miles from the Trailhead Shelter starting point. There is no fee to participate. The event will be cancelled due to weather at 3pm if the forecast is for below 0 degrees windchill.

The bridges of Madison county await exploration.  This beginner level kayaking and camping adventure explores the limestone bluffs and lowland woods of the Middle River.  Camp at one of central Iowa’s most scenic parks – Pammel State Park.   All transportation, gear and meals are provided.

$200 per person trip cost includes transportation, all meals, guided experience and any gear you need to borrow for trip.

This class will introduce people to the sport of kayak fishing on local Iowa rivers and lakes. It will start with a demo of our fishing kayaks where you will have the opportunity to try out the models we carry and discover their features and stability. Next, two Iowa fisheries professionals will be here to discuss local fish species in our rivers, habitats, seasonal movements and techniques to catch them. We will then be loading up in the kayaks to get your fishing lines wet as we paddle, fish, and provide instruction down to the Boy Scout camp. After a morning of great fishing, fishing tips and paddle instruction we will provide lunch on a sandbar. Hope you can join us for this educational and exciting day of fishing!

Crawdaddy is bringing to you a rich cultural experience!  This adventure focuses the deep cultural history Bremer County, the Cedar Valley and Iowa in general.  Paddlers can expect five stops along the way where they will be presented with the following discussion topics: an overview of Bremer County and Cedar Valley archaeology, artifact collection and curation, technology in archaeology, cultural resources compliance, and current archaeological research.  Participants are encouraged to bring their artifacts and questions.  The event is limited to 20 paddlers.

About the tour guide – Brennan (B.J.) Dolan is an archaeologist and cultural resources manager for the Iowa DOT.  He is the current president of the Association of Iowa Archaeologist, and a board member for the Iowa Archaeological Society.  He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, University of Nebraska, and Waverly-Shell Rock schools.

The cost is $30 if you’re bringing your own kayak or $40 if you need to rent one.

Join us for a kayaking and camping trip to the Middle Raccoon River in Western Iowa.  Paddle through the enchanting sandstone cliffs of the Whiterock Valley and camp at the Whiterock Conservancy Campground.  This beginner level trip combines daily kayak floats with opportunities to hike through the unique conservancy area of savannas, restored prairies, riverside bluffs and unique historic sites.  All trip gear is provided along with all meals and transportation.
